I've arrived in Hong Kong the night before the main orientation. Arriving at night, I decided to take the train to Kowloon Island and from there I took the taxi to my dorm. It was pretty expensive but it was very convenient. I haven't brought any sleeping necessities with (blanket, pillow) so I asked the reception office if I could borrow some and luckily they could've let me borrow for it was freezing cold when I arrived. I remember sleeping in two light blankets, sweater, and long pants the first night.
The next day was the orientation and it is where I met a lot of the other students in my faculty. There was a good number of students and it's a very diverse crowd. The orientation is important for that's where you make new friends and also learn everything you need to know about the school and Hong Kong. They went over everything from signing up for classes (something I needed need to worry for it was taken care of at UH) to getting the student rate Octopus Card (recommend getting this ASAP).
